Telangana: Bhagiratha pit swallows 2 kids

Police registered a case and shifted the bodies for autopsy.

Hyderabad: Two kids died after accidentally falling into a trench dug for Mission Bhagiratha works in Siddipet district. The girls who are sisters were identified as Shabana, 5, and Zoya, 4.

According to police, the kids are daughters of Karim Baig, a painter and Afreen Begum, a housewife. The family stays at Prashanthnagar in the Kallakunta area.

On Tuesday, both the kids went to the Anganwadi located near their house to study and to collect nutritious food for their mother.

After collecting the food, they started home on foot. Meanwhile, on way to their home, there were deep trenches dug for Mission Bhagiratha and they were filled with water due to the recent rains. The kids who were not aware of this walked towards the trench, fell in it and drowned.

Till afternoon when they did not return home, parents started searching for the kids and found their bodies floating in the trench.

Police registered a case and shifted the bodies for autopsy. Parents and residents alleged that the contractor’s negligence in filling the trench after finishing the work led to the death of the two kids.
