Hyderabad: Two judges to oversee Telangana Bar Council polls

Hyderabad: Justice A. Shankar Narayana and Justice P. Keshava Rao of the Hyderabad High Court have been appointed returning officers of Telangana and And-hra Pradesh respectively for elections to the Bar Councils of both states that will be held between 10 am and 5 pm on June 29.

Ms Renuka, secretary of the Bar Council, said 107 nominations were filed for the Bar Council of AP elections and 86 for the Telangana Bar Council polls.

She said 25 members were to be elected for each state Bar Council, by way of preferential voting in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote.

She said the elections would be conducted in 146 polling stations for 27,676 advocates in AP and 88 in Telangana state for 20,072 advocates.

She said every voter would be supplied a ballot paper on production of the identity card issued either by the State Bar Council or the Bar Association. Every advocate-voter may indicate five preferences against the name of the contesting candidates.

She said counting of votes would commence in the AP Bar Council on July 11, and on July 23 for the Telangana state Bar Council.
