Under ACB net: NCC guest certificates used for quota in MBBS seats

It is alleged that untrained NCC cadets as well as non-NCC cadets were prioritised for securing medical admission.

Update: 2018-06-13 20:16 GMT
Government TD Medical College, Alappuzha, tops the list with 22 vacant seats and government medical college, Kozhikode, comes last with four.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Directorate of the National Cadet Corps, a wing of the defence ministry, has come under the scanner of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The NCC directorate allegedly issued certificates to candidates who participated as “guests” in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Based on these certificates, MBBS/BDS seats were secured by undeserving candidates.

In 2016-17, 23 seats were thus occupied and 28 in 2015-16. The previous Congress government had increased the NCC quota from 0.5 to 1 per cent of medical seats, which is double that of the sports quota.

Following the investigation into the medical seats scam that nailed the Sports Authority of TS, the ACB opened its doors to complaints. One of the many complaints came from Rani Aishwarya who alleged fraud in the scrutiny process carried out by the NCC directorate while prioritising candidates seeking medical seats under the NCC quota.

He told Deccan Chronicle: “At the time of selection for Republic Day Parade camps, each cadet is given a specific number called chest number with which he/she will participate in the successive selection camps. But no chest number will be given to the general/other NCC cadets who did not choose to participate in Republic Day camp selections. After perusing the camp records we found that none of the cadets who got admission under NCC quota for their alleged participation in the camps for the academic years 2013 to 2017 were allotted a chest number

The eligibility of the NCC candidate to seek reservation and admission to the MBBS/BDS depends on the certificate showing participation in the Republic Day Camp at New Delhi, and Republic Day Camp at state-level.

It is alleged that untrained NCC cadets as well as non-NCC cadets were prioritised for securing medical admission.
