Hyderabad: On the first day of the new academic year, on Monday, autos, school vans, TSRTC buses and private vehicles carried several thousands of students to schools, a sight which was missing for a long time.

TSRTC buses which rescheduled its timings to suit the school’s timings to commute the students, were mostly able to cater to the need of students, barring a few incidents in which the services could not be provided on time. M. Vijay Kumar, chief traffic manager, Greater Hyderabad Zone, said most of the services went on smoothly and transported the students. In a week, the corporation will have the overall student’s strength who are patronising the RTC buses, he said, adding that a major portion of the student community used RTC buses.

School buses were also back to their services, said R. Satyanandam of St. George’s Grammar School, Abids. “To make the journey safe and secure, a lady attendant and a cleaner accompany the students in the bus. Students will have a comfortable travelling experience in the school bus,” he said.

Autorickshaws, which are engaged in commuting school students, as usual carried around eight students in one trip. There was no report of drivers breaching the law.
