Hyderabad: The Congress and YSR Congress are getting ready to introduce a Private Members Bill in Parliament on defections.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, hailing the Supreme Court judgement restoring the duly elected Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh, tweeted on Wednesday: “Salute to Hon Supreme Court for restoring the duly elected Govt in Arunachal Pradesh. Governor should resign.”

Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, while welcoming the SC judgement, said he expects similar strictures against the TRS government over defections. “KCR would also be facing strictures by the Apex Court for the defection of 47 people's representatives from the Opposition parties to the TRS. SC ruling was a direct slap on the face of the BJP. Telangana anti-defection cases would be figuring in the Supreme Court on July 18,” he said.

Mr Reddy said that the heads of both Houses in the state had not acted properly on petitions against defectors.

Meanwhile, YSRC MP S. Vijay Sai Reddy plans to introduce a Private Member's Bill in Parliament seeking amendment of Article 361b insofar as it impinges on the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

The provision bars a member of the House from holding an office of profit. Mr Vijay Sai said his purpose to introduce the Bill was to end the menace of defections in the country, particularly in the Telugu states.
