Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday asked the Telangana government to inform it about the criteria for declaration of drought-hit mandals and the benefits, if any, making such a declaration would bring to farmers and the people.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a petition by Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy challenging the declaration of 19 mandals in Karimnagar district as drought-prone and ignoring 21 other mandals despite the recommendation of the collector.

Sarasani Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, alleged that the government was showing discrimination in declaring drought-hit mandals. The bench asked counsel for the government to place all details before it by July 21.
