The Indian IT job market will see layoffs and a dip in opportunities as traditional roles get replaced by automation and digitisation.

Hyderabad: Gopikrishna Durgaprasad, a native of Vijayawada, committed suicide on Wednesday at Pune. Pramod Sheik, an employee said, “This cannot be seen as an individual incident. It is just the tip of an iceberg. There are so many layoffs happening in the IT industry this year that it is affecting a lot of employees. With contracts that can be nullified at any time, how can we ever be relaxed about our jobs?”

Many feel that companies hire freshers to make them slog more at a lower salary. “Seniors are also being removed like freshers. Companies hire newer batches every year. They build a sense of competition and insecurity in the employee who works harder than what is expected of one professional just to stay employed,” Mr Sheik said.
