BENGALURU: Two days after Deccan Chronicle reported about a 33-year-old auditor being assaulted in public view in Thippasandra Market in Jeevan Bima Nagar, the jurisdictional police on Saturday registered FIR in this connection.

DC had carried the story, 'Auditor’s good act earns him a thrashing…,’ dated August 11, in its Thursday edition. Taking note of the story, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (east division) ordered a probe into the matter following which an FIR was registered with Jeevan Bima Nagar police station on Saturday.

The auditor, Prince Xavier, told this newspaper, “The station inspector took the complaint only after the matter was escalated to the higher-ups. I received a call from DCP Sathish who patiently listened to my complaint and immediately directed his junior officers to attend to me. As directed by the senior police officer, I approached the station and registered the complaint on Friday. On Saturday, they sent me the FIR acknowledgement.”

On Monday evening, when Xavier had gone to buy provisions from the market, he came across a road rage incident. When he checked he saw an auto-rickshaw driver, along with locals, were harassing a software professional. He offered to help the road rage victim and told him to inform the police. Just then an unidentified man assaulted Xavier.

“I tried reasoning with the autorickshaw driver, who had called local residents and had surrounded the man in the car. As the situation was getting worse, I tried to inform the police when an unidentified man punched me in the face. I started bleeding from my lower lip. He hit me again in the jaw and I fell on the road,” Xavier said.

Xavier got through to the police control room, but help arrived only 40 minutes later. “When I started calling 100 asking them to send help, the ERT (emergency response team) told me, ‘We don't have a chopper so that we can fly and come for your rescue. So stop calling us so many times. We are stuck in a traffic jam and will reach the spot’.”
