Mangaluru: Following a controversy over the Kannada essay ‘Yuddha: Ondu Udyama,’ (War a business) written by Baraguru Ramachandrappa, the Board of Studies for Kannada has decided to withdraw the controversial lesson from syllabus. The essay was included as a Kannada lesson for the First Year BCA and BSc (Animations) of Mangaluru University for the first semester of the present academic year.

The content had evoked controversy as it allegedly had the writer referring to his friend in the army who had reportedly told him that soldiers who stay away for long periods from their families sometimes resort to rape.

This had led to opposition from ex servicemen and also MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik. Now the Board of Studies of Kannada has decided to withdraw the controversial lesson.

The Registrar of Mangaluru University stated that the Board of Studies during its meeting on August 12 decided to withdraw the lesson following opposition.
