Hyderabad: A five-year-old baby girl was kidnapped by a rag-picker at Nallagutta, which comes under Ramgopalpet police station in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The police recovered footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity and are hoping to find clues to the kidnapper.

According to Ramgopalpet police, on Tuesday morning, B. Raju along with his wife Hajira and three children reached Patny area in a bus from Yapral and wanted to go to Niloufer Hospital for Fathima’s health check-up.

As they were all walking towards James Street Railway station via Park Lane, a rag-picker known to Raju greeted them.

The man in his early 30s asked Raju to buy him a cup of tea and started up a conversation. The family then headed towards Nallagutta to buy milk for the kids.

The rag-picker offered to accompany them and took Fathima into his hands when Raju and wife went to get the milk. “When we returned, the man and my daughter both were missing,” said Raju in his complaint to the police.

The police said that Raju  does not know the name of the person to whom he handed over the child, but claims that he can recognise him as they both were earlier into rag-picking.

The police also recovered CCTV footage of the man taking away the child when her parents put their bags down and went to get milk.

Special teams have been formed to trace and rescue the kidnapped baby and nab the suspect said the police, who registered a case under section 363 of IPC.
