Tests for Agniveer recruitments begin today in Vizag
More than 60,000 aspirants will compete for becoming Agniveers during the 18-day recruitment drive till August 31
VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam is fully geared up for conducting the centrally sponsored 18-day drive to recruit Agniveers into defence services commencing Sunday, August 14. Candidates from different parts of the state have arrived to take part in the drive, which will continue till August 31.
Collector A. Mallikarjuna said more than 60,000 candidates are expected to participate in the recruitment drive being held at the GVMC Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Stadium near Vizag Port for selecting Agniveers for the Indian Navy, Army and Air Force.
Visakhapatnam police commissioner Ch. Srikanth said 450 police personnel have been deployed for ensuring security at the stadium, apart from other places, including the Beach Road.
A team, including the collector and police commissioner, inspected the stadium to check arrangements like electricity, water, food and toilets for candidates participating in the drive. The team checked out the running track at the stadium, which had got muddied during the recent rains.
The collector ordered officials to make all arrangements for candidates and recruitment staff. He said it is the responsibility of state government to ensure that the centre’s drive does not face any difficulties.
Aspirants will be evaluated by defence wings in a centralised manner based on objective criteria. including their performance within a specified period.
According to the notification issued for recruitment, at the end of the entire service period of four years, all Aginveers will be discharged. They will receive a "Seva Nidhi" package, which will enable them to return to society and look for jobs in other fields.
Candidates above 17.5 years under 21 years are eligible to participate in the recruitment drive.
