3 killed, 4 hurt in car-lorry collision near Ariyalur

The injured were admitted to Government medical college at Thanjavur.

JAYANKONDAM: At least three persons were killed and four others were seriously injured in a major road accident in Ariyalur district in the wee hours of Friday.

Police said three persons were killed on the spot and four others were injured when a car in which they were traveling collided head-on with a speeding sand-laden lorry at Thazhuthazaimedu village under Meensurutti police limits near Jayankondam in Ariyalur district, early hours today.The deceased were identified as car driver Anandakumar, Nagendran, and Anilkumar of Kolar district, Karnataka.

The deceased and the injured persons, Pannapalli Srikanth, Nandakumar, Masthi Srikanth, and Seshanth were on their way to Thirunallar Sri Saneeswarar temple near Karaikal in the neighbouring Puducherry union territory, when the mishap occurred.

The injured were admitted to Government medical college at Thanjavur, police added. Police arrested lorry driver Gandhi and are investigating.
