Hyderabad: 32,000 idols immersed in 23 artificial water bodies
23 artificial water bodies played a vital role which decreased pressure on other lakes.
Hyderabad: As many as 32,000 Ganesha idols were immersed in 23 baby ponds spread across the city apart from 45,000 in Hussainsagar till Friday. City mayor Bonthu Rammohan said that an estimated 84,000 idols were being immersed this year, about 10,000 more than last year.
Mr Rammohan said that in the Hyderabad police commissionerate alone, 32,800 idols were immersed followed by 12,000 in Rachakonda police commissionerate and 10,116 in Cyberabad police commissionerate limits till Friday evening. The others are to be immersed and the process will go on till midnight.
The mayor said the immersion went on peacefully and 23 artificial water bodies played a vital role which decreased pressure on other lakes, especially Hussainsagar. He said that the baby ponds will be again put to use for immersing Bathukamma and Durga idols during Dasara. He said police in co-ordination with other departments had ensured that the Ganesh idols were removed from pandals on time, peaceful processions and immersion. “There is a good increase in the number of clay Ganesha idols and we will continue to raise awareness campaigns next year. I thank citizens for extending their cooperation to keep the city clean,” he added.
GHMC commissioner D.S. Lokesh Kumar, Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar and Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat participated in the meeting and said that they would continue with the same spirit to ensure law and order.
