Hyderabad: As the Ganesha idol immersions continued on Friday morning on Tank Bund and Necklace Road, traffic got jammed on Lower Tank Bund in the morning for some time. Traffic diversions were in place till 10 am as officials continued to immerse the large number of idols that were coming in. The immersions are expected to conclude by midnight.
Hyderbad police commissioner Anjani Kumar had said in his traffic advisory that the restrictions would be extended if the situation so demanded. In the event, the restrictions were not extended beyond 10 am.
Vehicle movement was slow on Tank Bund, Khairatabad, Lower Tank Bund, Telugu Talli flyover and Ranigunj on the procession route. Besides, slow-moving traffic was also reported at Secunderabad, Sangeet circle, Begumpet, Jubilee Hills and Madhapur.
As Friday was a working day, there was the usual rush of school- and office-goers and motorists got stuck in jams.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, additional commissioner of traffic, Anil Kumar Additional commissioner of police (traffic) said,
“After 8 am the road towards Tank Bund was cleared and opened for the public. As Friday is a working day, we planned in advance and facilitated traffic movement. As far as my knowledge, there were no traffic jams on Tank Bund”.
