Hyderabad: Forty students of a tribal girls hostel in Mannanur of Nagarkurnool's Amrabad mandal fell sick late on Thursday night after having 'tomato chaaru' for lunch. Students complained of difficulty in breathing and vomiting and were rushed to a hospital in the vicinity by fellow students and locals in autorickshaws, lorries and ambulances.

They later shifted to the Atchampet government hospital for better treatment. As a precautionary measure, all the 300 girls in the hostel were taken to the hospital for a check-up.

This incident occurred three days after 103 students of a residential girls school in Nizamabad took ill after following suspected food poisoning

At least 10 of them have suffered abdominal pain and respiratory issues, and are said to being administered artificial respiration.

Minister Satyavati Rathod and the tribal welfare commissioner spoke to the authorities and directed them to monitor the health of students.

Locals took to streets to protest the incident, disrupting traffic on the Srisailam highway for a while. A huge crowd gathered outside the hospital to help the students and joined the protest.
