Hyderabad: Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, roads in the city are getting a makeover, with patchworks being undertaken to cover potholes and fix overflowing drains. The works were initiated after a pandal organiser brought the issue to the notice of minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav during a coordination meet. Pandal organisers and officials of concerned government departments attended the meeting, held on August 26.

The minister instructed the officials concerned to rid potholes, fix overflowing drains in the city and install streetlights on routes with heavy movement of devotees.

GHMC authorities said they are working towards fixing the potholes.

GHMC chief engineer Mohammad Ziauddin said, “We have repaired over ten thousand potholes in the last week. There are nearly three thousand potholes left, which will be repaired in two to three days.”

HMWS&SB general manager Jan Shareef said, "A special drive is ongoing to fix drains across the city. The main procession route covers Goshamahal, Purana Pul, Begum Bazaar, Mozamjahi Market, Gandhi Bhavan and Nampally, among other areas."
