Rural Andhra Pradesh sees no new state-built houses
578 of 9,164 sanctioned houses have been constructed.
Hyderabad: Under former chief minister NTR’s regime, united AP stood number one in the country in the construction of rural housing. But over the last two years, not a single new government-sanctioned house has been constructed in rural Andhra Pradesh. The state government sanctioned 2 lakh houses in the previous year, but till today, the selection list of beneficiaries has not been completed.
Two years ago, the state government sanctioned over 9,000 houses to the victims of Hudhud Cyclone in the three districts of north-coastal Andhra.
Till now, only 578 houses have been built. The construction of houses in the urban areas is also in the same situation.
Instead of constructing the new houses, the state government has taken up construction of incomplete houses, roof repair, plugging leakages, plastering floor repairs to make the houses habitable. Under this programme, 1,50,000 houses and 46,234 beneficiaries were identified, and 33,380 houses were sanctioned with the maximum amount of Rs 10,000 per house. Under the NTR rural housing scheme, 2,00,000 houses were sanctioned by the government.
Till today 77,183 beneficiaries were identified and about 45, 566 houses were accorded by the government. In AP Chief Minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu’s own district Chittoor, 10,950 houses were allotted and 7,918 beneficiaries were identified and administrative sanction accorded.
Srikakulam district stands in the last position in the state in the selection of beneficiaries. The state government allotted 9,000 houses to Srikakulam district and till today, only 105 beneficiaries have been identified and administrative sanction not given to even a single house.
In Krishna and Guntur districts, 6,826 and 5,097 beneficiaries were selected out of total 11,150 and 12,950 houses, respectively. Administrative sanction has not been given to even a single house till date in these two districts. The state government sanctioned 9,164 houses in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts under the NTR special housing scheme for Hudhud Cyclone victims two years ago. As many as 8,340 houses were taken up for construction and only 578 were completed.
In Vizianagaram district, 1,368 houses were allotted and all houses were taken up for construction but only two houses were completed in two years.
Under the Indira Awas Yojana, 64,362 houses were sanctioned in 2015-16 and till today 21,126 houses have not yet been completed.
