Ban on sale of crackers stays
Justice Sikri asked the counsel Who said we have banned the bursting of crackers? The existing stockpile of crackers is enough.\"
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to modify its October 9 order banning the sale of firecrackers in Delhi and NCR for this year’s Diwali till November 1.
The bench said, “We are not going to modify as that will go against the spirit of our order. We are pained that some people are giving communal colour. Our concern primarily was the health of the masses. If someone knows me, I am myself spiritual in these matters. But this is a legal issue and we have clearly said that this is an experiment for this year.”
Justice Sikri asked the counsel “Who said we have banned the bursting of crackers? The existing stockpile of crackers is enough. The suspension of sales has not dampened Diwali celebrations. The sales are taking place. Crackers are being burst.”
