VIJAYAWADA/GUNTUR: AP minister for human resources Ganta Srinivasa Rao ordered the commissioner of Intermediate Board to conduct an inquiry about the suicide of an intermediate student at Nidamanuru in Krishna district. Intermediate first year student Bhargava Sai Reddy studying MPC belonging to the Pemmadapalle village of  Rayachoti of Kadapa district, committed suicide in the Sri Chitanya College at Nidamanuru.

The minister, Mr Rao, expressed grief over the suicide of Bhargava Sai Reddy. He said that a meeting would be held on October 16 with private and corporate colleges to restrain the increasing suicides and warned about cancellation of recognition of the colleges which violate norms.

Earlier on Friday morning a few students noticed  Bhargava hanging from the ceiling fan in the Santha Bhavan campus of Sri Chaitanya College at Nidamanuru. The classmates stated that Bhargava seemed tense for the past few days due to the exams and he was not seen in the room in the early hours. The college management immediately brought down Bhargava and shifted him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. They immediately shifted the body to Vijayawada government hospital and informed the parents. The students alleged that college management did not wait till the arrival of parents and this gave rise to suspicions about the suicide of Bhargava.

Responding to the suicide Mr Srinivasa Rao assured about stern action against Sri Chaitanya College based on the findings of the inquiry report. He lamented that private and corporate colleges were neglecting the norms to get ranks. He said that ranks encouraged unhealthy competitions hence the government was planning to introduce grading system to intermediate students in the place of ranks. He said that 158 hostels were operative without proper permissions and admitted about the failure of Intermediate Board officials and education department officials towards implementation of norms.
