Telangana seeks Rs 1,640 crore for levy rice
Mr Paswan has agreed to hold a meeting with officials on October 18 and take measures for the payment of arrears.

Hyderabad: Finance and civil supplies minister Etala Rajender on Friday met Union food minister Ram Vilas Paswan in New Delhi and sought payment of Rs 1,640 crore arrears which the Centre owes the state government.
He told Mr Paswan that the that arrears pertained to procurement of levy rice for PDS and had not been cleared for two years.
Earlier, the Centre used to procure PDS rice under levy system from the states, and pay them. The NDA government scrapped the system.
Due to repeated requests, the Centre agreed to procure 7.04 lakh metric tonnes of PDS rice, but has not paid it so far. Mr Paswan has agreed to hold a meeting with officials on October 18 and take measures for the payment of arrears.
