Thrissur: Seven suspected of ATM robbery

Thrissur: The police team inquiring into the ATM robbery cases in Ernakulam and Chalakkudy in the wee hours of Friday has identified seven suspects through the CCTV footages collected from near the Chalakudy railway station.
The gang had stolen a pick-up van from Kodimatha in Kottayam and their attempt to loot two ATMs in Kottayam had failed.
They robbed Rs 25 lakh from the SBI ATM at Irumbanam in Kochi around 3. 30 a.m. and '10.86 lakh from the South Ind-ian Bank ATM at Koratty junction at 4.30 a.m. The CCTV footages of seven persons who look like workers from North India was collected by the police.
Thrissur Rural SP M.K. Pushkaran, who is heading the investigation here, said that the cops in three districts were probing the incident and sharing information.
The robbers had changed their dress after the robbery and the CCTV near the Chalakudy railway station has captured some their conversation which was in Hindi and Malayalam, the Rural SP said.
The Chalakudy DySP is heading the Thrissur team. The finger prints collected from the ATM counters and the pick-up van abandoned by the gang at Chalakudy were handed over to the National Crime Records Bureau in Chennai and other states.
They had boarded a train going to the northern side from Chalakudy railway station around 6.30 a.m. on Friday.
