Anantapur: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), in coordination with Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) will take up widening of the road through the busy areas of Anantapur city by November end.

The operation will see full or partial demolition of buildings belonging to BJP and Jana Sena leaders. The main areas to be affected are Sapthagiri and Clock Tower circles. Incidentally, the road widening in key areas of Anantapur has been pending for many decades.

Official sources said they have already issued public notices for widening of the 9.2 km of road passing through the city. The centre had already sanctioned compensation for those whose properties will be affected.

Among the buildings to go will be mayor Md. Waseem Saleem’s family owned shop, apart from the spiritual centre at the Sapthagiri Circle.

Anantapur Urban MLA Ananta Venkatarami Reddy, along with civic and NHAI authorities, have reportedly convinced administrators of the spiritual centre by offering necessary funds towards construction of a new building for the centre.
