Hyderabad: Tension mounted at Santoshnagar police station on Sunday night with scores of people protesting against a Facebook post which allegedly insults a religious community.  Police found that an 'offensive animation' created in USA was re-posted by a few people in Santoshnagar. A case has been booked by South Zone police in this regard.

A crowd gathered near the police station and started shouting slogans and asking police to arrest the people who posted the offensive content in Facebook and Whatsapp. The protesters alleged that the posters’ intention was to hurt the religious sentiments and to create communal tension in the city.

They alleged that the animation defame religious symbols and religious beliefs of a certain community.

“The creator of the original poster is some ultra-right wing person from Chicago, USA. Somebody from this part of the city took it up and shared in their Facebook wall. We had booked a case at Hussaini Alam police station and at Cyber Crime Police station after the matter was brought to our notice by the locals 10 days back. But, now the issue has again escalated with some more people sharing it on the social media after having got it,” said South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.

The police again booked another case to investigate the new users, who shared the offensive content.
