Scamsters are forwarding a new message in the name of AWFBC, but the account numbers in the message are completely different.
Hyderabad: A hoax message is dong the rounds wherein people are being asked to deposit their old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in purported bank accounts of the Indian Army.
The message that’s doing the rounds of social media says “people can make a tax free deposits with their old notes in this bank account to help the Indian Army”.
Earlier, after the terrorist attack on the army camp in Uri, an online campaign was asking the citizens to donate Rs 1 to the Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties — a campaign which was officially confirmed by the Indian Army and the Syndicate Bank. Both the Army and the bank had released the bank account number and IFSC code in their Twitter and website in this regard.
Now, scamsters are forwarding a new message in the name of AWFBC, but the account numbers in the message are completely different. According to cybercrime officials, these private bank accounts are being operated out of New Delhi and other parts of North India.
Officials said that people can visit the Syndicate Bank’s websites to confirm the official account of AWFBC before making donations and not to deposit money in any other bank accounts.
