Two Metro stations will connect the city to the airport - one leading to the airport city and the other to the terminal itself.
Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport's second runway is ready and is expected to become operational from December 2019, with work on Terminal 2 set to begin in April 2021. Another massive project waits in the wings- The Airport City, a Rs 13,000 crore undertaking expected to be constructed in the next 15 years. It will be a hub for art, culture and entertainment, a "pedestrian-friendly space," says Hari Marar, MD and CEO, Bengaluru International Airport Ltd.
This airport space, he says, proposes business parks, convention centres, concert areans, retail outlets, dining, entertainment, hospitality and lots more. All of this has been proposed within the campus. Two Metro stations will connect the city to the airport - one leading to the airport city and the other to the terminal itself. The Metro line is expected to be complete by December 2023.
“The airport will be able to handle 80 million passengers a year in the next 11 years,” says Marar. It currently handles around 27 million annually.
