Barrier-free sensory park in Thiruvananthapuram soon
The social justice department has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh to set up the sensory park at Museum compound.
Thiruvananthapuram: Wheel-chair bound or children with other disabilities will be able to experience the joy of playing in a park with the authorities gearing up to convert the existing children's park at Museum compound into a barrier-free sensory park.
The social justice department has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh to set up the sensory park at Museum compound. The plan is to set up a very inclusive play area where children with special needs and their parent can spend quality outdoor time at the park.
An official of the Social Justice Department said that the proposal has been granted administrative sanction and the work of the park would take off once the cultural department approves the proposal.
Natural maze with bamboo, reflexology pathway, mud pit, sandpit, aromatic gardens, covered pathway, accessible pathways and ramp, water body and seating area are some of the components which would be set up in the park.
"We have already discussed the project with the Cultural Department and they have welcomed the proposal. We have sent an official request to the department, once they approve we will start the work," said the official.
COSTFORD - The Centre of Science and Technology for Rural Development - has been roped in for implementing the project.
