THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The two-day CPM state secretariat meeting beginning on Thursday will review the area conferences which are coming to a close and discuss issues connected with the 22nd Party Congress to be held in Hyderabad in 2018. After area conferences, the crucial district conferences are scheduled to begin from December 26. Central leaders including CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury who are attending the secretariat meeting, will place the report of politburo meeting held in Delhi the other day. The PB had deliberated on the draft political resolution and the political tactical line to be adopted at the party Congress.

They will also brief the secretariat about the discussions held on the issue of broader platform of secular parties to defeat ‘fascist’ and ‘communal’ BJP. The  approach towards parties like Congress and state- level political and organisational issues. The secretariat will review current political situation in the state including the fissures in the opposition UDF.  CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the main agenda is party’s ongoing organisational conferences. It is a big democratic and organisational exercise which needs to be reviewed in detail at different stages.

The CPM leader refuted reports that the secretariat meeting was exclusively for discussing inclusion of M P Veerendrakumar’s JDU and K. M. Mani’s Kerala Congress in LDF. These are baseless reports. It is only a coincidence that Mani’s party meeting is taking place on December 14, he said. The CPM leadership pointed out that Mani had left UDF about a year ago. Veerendrakumar spoke about resignation but has not resigned yet. Both the parties are yet to make their stand clear about political position. They said the LDF would not lose any opportunity to weaken the opposition UDF.
