Khammam farmers prefer harvester to reap paddy
The availability of harvesters and cost-effective are the reasons for it.
Khammam: Reaping paddy by using Harvester is most preferred by the farmers in Khammam district. Though there are both advantages and disadvantages in using harvester, the peasants have been opting out the machine for paddy reaping. The availability of harvesters and cost-effective are the reasons for it. In the MNREGS regime, the farm labourers are most demand force in rural area. The farmer should come to an understanding withe labour head ten days prior notice.
On the other hand, a farmer has to pay Rs 1,500 to reap one acre paddy by using harvester. But, the labourers used to take the labour charge in the form of kind instead of cash. N. Rama Rao, a farmer from Kamepalli said that the labourers will take two bags for reaping one acre – each 75 kilo — from the land owners. In terms of cash, it will be around Rs 2,200.
