I had not even completed SSLC, but here I did my BA and MA in political science after KSOU began a study centre.

Mysuru: “We are happy with our 'Release Bhagya', but we also need 'Rehabilitation Bhagya' for life outside prison,” said N.D. Ravikumar (45), who was one of the 16 lifers released from the Mysuru Central Jail on Wednesday evening.

Non-recognition of KSOU degrees was a matter of concern for Ravi and K.S. Dilex, who have completed their MA in political science through distance education. B.B. Lokesh too has done his BA from KSOU.

Fifteen men who had completed 14 years of jail, including pardon, two men who had completed 12 years and had crossed 65 years, were released.

Ravi said, “The pain suffered by my family, which had reposed so much faith in me, is much more than my punishment in jail. I was one of nine children and was working in a private firm. I and my wife were on a trip to Udupi and it was just eight months after our marriage. In a fit of rage, I slapped my wife and she died. I have spent 12 years in jail with two years of pardon. I had not even completed SSLC, but here I did my BA and MA in political science after KSOU began a study centre. But the degrees are of no use.”
