The Dharmapuri district police suspect the death of a missing girl to be a case of murder, as her relatives allegedly hushed up the issue and planned to cremate her body without informing the police.

Visakhapatnam: In a reversing trend, married men are now turning out to be the victims at the hands of their wives. City-based NGOs claim that legal extortion and illicit relationships of women were the main causes for the deaths of married men. Telugu film actor K. Vijay Sai, who committed suicide on Monday, had alleged in a selfie-video that his wife and her advocate had been demanding huge sums of money to withdraw the domestic violence case registered against him.

“The actor had taken the extreme step due to the mental harassment by his wife N. Vanitha Reddy, who had separated him from his daughter and taken away all the valuables and filed a false domestic violence case against him. Moreover, she had demanded Rs 3 crores to take back the cases,” said Venkata Mohana Rao, a leader of Save Indian Family (SIF) AP and Telangana Chapters. He had participated in the cremation ceremony of Vijay Sai at Hyderabad and came to know the alleged truth from his family members. The police department has not yet taken any action on the actor’s wife.

“She was releasing videos on social media that didn’t make sense, to gain sympathy and to escape the law,” said Mohana Rao. In an interview, Vanitha Reddy said that she was not responsible for the suicide of her husband but that his extra-marital affairs might have led him to the same. Meanwhile, the West Zone DCP, A Venkateswar Rao informed that they were examining the witnesses. The accused would be arrested at the conclusion of the probe.

According to the SIF leader, extra-marital affairs had become the major reason for crimes against married men in the state. Recently, in filmy style, a nurse Swathi Reddy, killed her husband M. Sudhakar Reddy by using an anesthetic injection and then poured acid on her paramour Rajesh’s face to change it by plastic surgery so he could take the place of her husband and acquire his property. However, they failed in their endeavor. Such incidents would wipe out the belief in the marriage system, a study said.
