Hyderabad: Within an hour after his wife committed suicide, an RTC employee attempted to take his life at his home by hanging and is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.
The incident took place at Sainagar in Karmanghat under Saroornagar police station limits during the early hours of Thursday. According to the police, the survivor, K. Santhosh, a native of Siddipet. works in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation as a mechanic. He was posted in the Jeedimetla Depot while his wife Rajani was a housewife. They had two sons, one aged three years and the another 18 months.
On Wednesday evening, the family of four returned from Siddipet. After dinner, they slept in the bedroom. At 5.30 am on Thursday when Santhosh woke up to relieve himself, he noticed that Rajani was not in the room, and the door of the bedroom was bolted from outside. He immediately called Rajani’s elder brother Rakesh who lives in Venkateshwara Colony. At about 6 am when Rakesh along with his wife reached Santhosh’s home, they found that the main door was latched from inside.
When Rakesh broke open the door with the help of neighbours, he saw his two nephews near the door and the body of their mother Rajani hanging from the ceiling. Santhosh was seen hanging in the bedroom.
Saroornagar inspector N. Ch Rangaswamy said, “The couple never complained about any issue to their relatives. They were leading a happy life. On Wednesday night, they returned from Siddipet. Rajani first committed suicide by hanging and then Santhosh attempted suicide.”
“He was taken to the RTC hospital and then to Gandhi Hospital where he is battling for life. The children are with their maternal uncle Rakesh who is a constable working in the fire department. Based on Rakesh’s complaint, a case has been registered under section 174 of CrPC for a probe,” the inspector added.
Responding to a query, the inspector said, “Santhosh is in a critical condition and in the intensive care unit. He is unable to talk. Doctors suggest that he could not talk and we could not take a dying declaration. We are verifying the call data records and the incidents that took place at Siddipet.”
