Vijayawada: Cockfights continue despite police check
Groups with political support manage to shut media out.
Vijayawada: Despite the authorities warning in the face of court orders against holding cockfights, the bloody sport was seen being held in many places without any fear or concern.
Cockfights are being held successfully despite police monitoring the situation at Penamaluru, Gudiwada, Nunna, Nuziveedu, Musunuru, Kaikaluru, Vissannapet and other places in Krishna district.
Some of the cocks were seen having knives tied to their talons. And on these roosters huge amounts were put on bets that changed hands.
Centres being run by politically-influential persons did not seem to face any major obstacles though a few small groups that tried to run the show were disrupted by police at many places.
The events were attended by people’s representatives and celebrities who witnessed the cockfights. Even media was not allowed into these centres.
Security arrangements made by managers of the cockfights has been perfect and could match or surpass the government’s preparations for any special event. No one except those on their network could enter the area.
No arrests were made on Sunday by the police. Some of those attending the show came from Telangana and Rayalaseema also. Most of them went to Nuzvid. People of Vijayawada city attended the Eedupugallu centre of MLA Bode Prasad. According to sources, the big shots went to West Godavari district.
Raghavapuram of Nandigama mandal, a clash was witnessed between two groups. The dispute was over cash commitment.
