Hyderabad: Garbage site at Mahatma Gandhi hall to be shifted
A delegation comprising SCB president Manish Upadhayay and CEO S.V.R. Chandrashekar scouted for a few locations on Wednesday.
Hyderabad: People staying in and around Trimulgherry can heave a sigh of relief with the Secunderabad Cantonment making a move to shift the garbage transit point from Mahatma Gandhi community hall.
A delegation comprising SCB president Manish Upadhayay and CEO S.V.R. Chandrashekar scouted for a few locations on Wednesday. They examined defence lands, including A1 and B4 lands on Bowenpally-Suchitra Road, Bolarum, Kowkur and in Jawaharnagar.
These are vacant lands located far off from residential colonies and officials feel there will not be any resistance like the one in Trimulgherry from the local people.
It is learnt that the Army has nearly 1,000 acres of land (military dairy farm land) on Bowenpally-Suchitra stretch, which is likely to be preferred. SCB might require four to five acres for it.
Preliminary inspection has been done and after further assessment in the next few days, SCB might take up paper work to get control over the land. Vacant land in Kowkur is also under the consideration of the authorities.
Ward-7 member P Bhagyashree from the Congress has been fighting to shift the garbage transit point from Trimulgherry for the past several months. She even walked out on few occasions, not satisfied with the Board’s assurances to consider the issue.
The same scenario got repeated in the recent Board meeting following which the SCB top brass conducted a field visit to explore alternative sites. N. Venkataramana from Malani Housing Cooperative Society, Trimulgherry, stated that they are facing woes with the Trimulgherry garbage point for the last three years.
“This community hall earlier hosted marriages and functions of middle class families from the area. Also, children used to attend karate classes there. Putting public health at risk, SCB transformed this into a garbage station.”
