CAA protesters in lurch over permission
The JAC is now planning an agitation on February 16 but it has it has not yet received permission.
Hyderabad: The organisers of the women’s protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) are facing uncertainty as they have neither received permission for their agitation scheduled for Sunday nor have they got a rejection letter.
The Telangana-AP Joint Action Committee against CAA-NPR-NRC is trying to organise a protest for last 20 days but the police has denied them permission thrice. The JAC is now planning an agitation on February 16 but it has it has not yet received permission. JAC convener Mushtaq Malik said that the police authorities were informed on Saturday evening. In addition, Congress leader V. Hanumanth Rao and MIM had also applied for police permission on the same date at the same place.
He said, “We had applied for the fourth time along with the High Court’s order which instructs the authorities to consider on our petition as per the law. Now the police authorities are saying that it received petitions from other groups. He said we have no objection if they grant permission to others along with us because in the past it was given to more than one party.”
Mr Malik added, “If the authorities allow us we will ensure that the women’s protest will be held in a disciplined and peaceful manner, otherwise we will observe Sunday as ‘protest day’ in the city.”
