Carcass of black leopard found in Kotagiri

An on-the-spot autopsy conducted on Friday evening revealed that the liver of the animal was damaged.

The villagers of Kadakodu who found the carcass informed the officials of the forest department who rushed to the spot for an investigation.

Ooty: The carcass of a black leopard, a rare variety, was found in a private farmland at Kadakodu village in Kotagiri on Friday.

The villagers of Kadakodu who found the carcass informed the officials of the forest department who rushed to the spot for an investigation. Stating that it was a nearly 3-year-old female black leopard, Mr. Saravanakumar, the assistant conservator of forests at Nilgiris forest division, said that the animal was found without any external injuries or any other marks.

An on-the-spot autopsy conducted on Friday evening revealed that the liver of the animal was damaged.  It was presumed that due to liver ailment the animal could not feed properly for the past couple of days leading to its death.  

Visceral samples collected from the carcass will be sent for laboratory analysis to find out the exact cause of its death" he added.
