Chennai: Food minister R. Kamaraj on Wednesday alleged that former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam failed to extend the special PDS scheme to provide dhal and cooking oil to people through PDS and this led to the disruption in the supply of the commodities under the scheme.

He told reporters that he did not want to say about Panneerselvam's failure earlier due to civility, but Panneerselvam himself is now making allegations that the special PDS scheme had been disrupted. He added that he had been forced to speak Panneerselvam's failure following the latter's charges. The special scheme should be extended every six months, but he did not give extension despite several requests by him.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami had extended the scheme on March 2 and due to this order, the government godowns had started receiving supplies of 20,000 metric tonnes of dhal and 1.5 lakh litres of palm oil. They would be distributed to all the ration shops throughout the state, he said.
