Lok Sabha Polls: Schools to close 10 days in advance

The board exams for classes 10, 11 and 12 will end on March 29.

Chennai: Due to Lok Sabha polls, the school education department has advanced the closure of schools by 10 days this year and announced that April 12 would be the last working day for government high and higher secondary schools.

As per the poll schedule released by Election Commission of India (ECI), the polling for 39 MP seats and by-polls to 18 MLA seats in Tamil Nadu to be held on April 18.

 "A majority of the government high and higher secondary schools in the state are designated polling booths. We have to hand over the schools to election officials two days in advance. So, we have advised the district officials to finish exams before April 12," officials from the school education department said.

In the previous year, the last working day for government high and higher secondary schools was April 22.

The board exams for classes 10, 11 and 12 will end on March 29.

"The chief educational officers should conduct third term exams from April 1 to 12. The last working day of the year for the schools is April 12. They should compensate for the loss of working days by working on Saturdays," a circular from the school education department said.
