Chennai: The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has alleged that many aided and unaided colleges are claiming that admissions to under-graduate courses are over in violation of government norms.  It also urged the government to form admission monitoring committees at the district level to ensure that the norms are not violated by the colleges.

In his statement, N.Shettu, general secretary of AUT said, "Many colleges have not cared to constitute an admission committee as per norms. Any admission made without an admission committee is a violation of the government guidelines."

As per the guidelines issued by the directorate of collegiate education, all colleges should start the admission procedure only after 12 days of releasing the plus 2 results.  "Aided Colleges should complete the admission to aided courses and then alone for self-financing courses. But in practice, aided colleges reverse this procedure and fill up the unaided courses before that of aided courses," he said.

He pointed out that this is gross injustice to the economically and socially weaker sections of society. "Only one application form should be used providing the option for the candidates to indicate the choice of the courses. But some colleges insist on one application for each course," he said adding that government orders and proceedings should be enforced by strict monitoring and vigilant action to ensure free and fair admission.
