Chennai: In a horrifying incident captured on camera in Chennai’s Moolakothalam, a man was seen dragging a dog after brutally beating it half to death. He then flung the half live animal into a sewage pond.

Speaking about the incident, animal rights activist and president of Almighty Animal Care Trust, Sai Vignesh, said, “I am very shocked by this incident. It shows how cruel humans can be. I went to the spot and enquired with some people. A few of them said that he is a repeat animal abuser.”

According to police, the accused dragged the dog on the road and took it to Moolakothalam, where he allegedly beat the dog and drowned it to death in the cooum river. As soon as Sai Vignesh heard of the incident, he lodged a complaint with the Washermenpet police station. Police personnel there launched a search for the man identified as Olli Kumar, said to be a local goon and is known to torture dogs in the locality. Police on Tuesday arrested the accused and he will be remanded shortly. The carcass of the dog has been found and sent to the Madras Veterinary College for postmortem.

Only a few months back, in a blatant disregard for an animal’s life, a man named Arumugam battered his neighbour Manigandan’s dog with a cricket bat in Chennai, and in another incident, a security guard of an apartment in

Anna Nagar was charged under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for beating a dog to death.
