Hyderabad: Low-paid Haj House workers seek zakat
On an average, they manage to make Rs 10,000 per month, which they say is not sufficient.
Hyderabad: Workers engaged in the maintenance of the Haj House are not getting sufficient wages, forcing them to appeal to generous Muslims to support them with zakat during the Holy Month of Ramzan.
The Wakf Board hired about 17 workers on contract/ outsourcing basis for the maintenance of the Haj House building, among these, electricians, lift operators, plumber, helpers and sweepers. They are paid Rs 400 per day based on the rule of no work.
On an average, they manage to make Rs 10,000 per month, which they say is not sufficient.
Considering their financial condition, one of the employees of the Wakf Board appealed to Muslims to donate zakat to these workers who are in need of help.
A post appealing for help for these workers went viral on social media. One worker said that government should review the scale and fix rational remuneration.
He said that there is a vast difference between the salaries of contract or outsourced employees and regular workers, while in many cases, both perform the same work.
