SIT report on postal ballot scam today
The role of Left led police organisation is also being examined.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch special investigation team probing the postal ballot malpractice is likely to submit its interim report to Chief Electoral Officer Mr Teeka Ram Meena on Wednesday.
The Crime Branch officials said till Tuesday no fresh complaint came up before the investigation team. Five police personnel are being investigated in connection with the matter. The role of Left led police organisation is also being examined.
The chief electoral officer had directed the Crime Branch to submit the report by May 15. According to the available indications, the investigation team is likely to seek more time for detailed probe.
Meanwhile, the opposition has alleged that there was a deliberate move to drag the probe. It accused the Left led association of putting pressure on the cops to delay the investigation.
The Crime Branch besi-des registering cases aga-inst commando Vaishakh who is posted at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple security wing, had also examined his voice clip pertaining to postal ballots. In the preliminary probe he was found to have collected the postal ballots of AR Battalion.
The Crime Branch is also carrying out probe against Arun Mohan, Ratheesh, Rajesh Kumar and Manikuttan in connection with the mailing of postal ballots.
The Intelligence chief found that most irregularities took place in Kasaragod, Kannur, Vada-kara, Alathur, Kollam and Attingal Lok Sabha constituencies. It was also found that hundreds of postal ballots have been sent to the house of a member of the Left-link-ed police association at Vattapara in Thiruvan-anthapuram.
Chief Electoral Officer had earlier stated that the progress of the crime branch investigations into the bogus postal votes and malpractices would be monitored regularly.
