Old office of Telangana CM to be demolished
The design for the new Secretariat cannot be executed unless the G-Block, which lies in the middle, is demolished.
Hyderabad: The century-old G-Block in the Secretariat, which has survived several demolition attempts earlier due to resistance from heritage lovers, is set to be razed soon to pave the way for construction of the new Telangana Secretariat. The design for the new Secretariat cannot be executed unless the G-Block, which lies in the middle, is demolished. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who was keen to restore this block to its past glory, has now changed his stand to enable construction of the new integrated complex that will house the offices of all HoDs.
The new Secretariat design submitted by noted architect Hafeez Contractor has apparently been approved by the Chief Minister. The U-shaped design comprises five new blocks with five floors each. The CMO block will be built in the existing location, surrounded by two blocks on either side. Mr Rao is expected to lay the foundation stone for the new Secretariat on Dasara day in October.
