Bengaluru: For all those eagerly waiting for the inauguration of Indira Canteen, which offers food at subsidised rates, here is what you will be served at the canteen.

While upma, idli, kara pongal, avalakki, bisi bele bath and lemon rice will be served for breakfast between Monday and Saturday, on Sundays it will be a treat with vegetable pulav, jeera rice, tomato rice and puliyogare. For lunch and dinner, rice, sambar, rasam and pickle will be served.

“Though we serve breakfast at Rs 5 and lunch and dinner at Rs 10, there will be no compromise on quality and quantity of the food served,” stressed Mayor G. Padmavathi.

She said that the spots where the canteens will be set up across all the 198 BBMP wards have been finalised.

“We are all set to serve Bengalureans from August 15. Mega-kitchens will come up in the 28 assembly constituencies of the city. Food cooked here will be transported to respective canteens in the constituency. Coupons will be issued and we are ready to serve 250 people in one slot. Canteens will have toilet facility too,” she said.

The only aspect that is still left to be decided is the caterers and that too will be finalised soon, she said.

KEF from Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri has been given the contract to set up the infrastructure at a cost of Rs 28.5 lakh per canteen.
