Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited has started encouraging the use of e-vehicles by installing charging junction boxes and charging points along the metro rail corridor and at various parking lots.

Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy told this newspaper that the HMRL was concentrating on increasing the number of charging points in the city. “We are introducing charging points for e-cars in all the parking lots of metro stations in the city. We are also planning a few more charging points along the Metro corridor”, he said.

“The number of e-cars will rise considerably in the future and HMRL is ensuring that enough charging points are installed. According to several surveys, motorists will adopt electric vehicles in city in the next 10 years, provided the government takes care of the required logistics. And this is what we are committed to fulfill.” he said.

“The HMRL is developing charging points with solar panels on PPP mode. It will also establish battery units at parking places to ensure that replacement of batteries of electric vehicles can be done if needed.” he added.

Mr Chintala Naveen, a techie, said that HMRL’s charging points would be useful for those with e-vehicles. “We can park and charge our vehicles at the station itself. When we get back after work, we will have a fully charged car to reach home”, he said.
