Suicide case: Sirisha, boss were having affair, says police
Police officials, who questioned Rajiv and his friend Sravan, said they went to Kukunoorpally on Monday night to meet the SI.
Hyderabad: The police probe into the deaths of both beautician Sirisha and SI P. Prabhakar Reddy brought out some twists and turns. Police claims to have found evidence that Sirisha, a married woman, and her employer Vallabhaneni Rajiv were in a relationship. The duo and their friend Sravan went to meet SI Prabhakar Reddy at his place in Kukunoorpally to ‘settle’ a dispute between the couple. But the men got drunk and the SI tried to rape Sirisha, which made her commit suicide, police sources said.
Sirisha’s husband, Satish Chandra, a chef in a city restaurant, said he got a call from his wife on Monday night saying that she will be coming back late due to work requirements. But she did not come home that day. Next day morning, he got a call from Banjara Hills police, who told him that his wife has committed suicide at her workplace. Satish Chandra, who repeatedly stated that there was no reason for her to end her life, asked the police to investigate the possibility of murder.
Meanwhile, police officials, who questioned Rajiv and his friend Sravan, said they went to Kukunoorpally on Monday night to meet the SI. “Rajiv had allegedly promised to marry Sirisha as they had been together for a while now. But, Rajiv started having an affair with another woman recently and a dispute arose between the two. In order to settle the matter, Rajiv and Sravan convinced Sirisha to meet the SI and they took her to his place in Kukunoorpally. During their discussion they got drunk. When Sravan and Rajiv went out to smoke the SI tried to rape Sirisha,” said a source from the police.
Police has now taken Sravan and Rajiv into custody. Cops are also investigating if the duo deliberately tried to facilitate the rape. Sources also revealed that after they came back to Hyderabad early on Tuesday morning Sirisha fought with Sravan, Rajiv and another employee named Tejaswi.
Rajiv told the police that he saw her body hanging in the morning. Senior police officials said they are investigating all angles including murder.
Third suicide by an sub-inspector in the last two years
Although the Telangana police is trying to boost its image by taking new initiatives the suicides by its officers is likely to haunt it.
This is not the first suicide of an SI in Kukunoorpally police station. Last year, then sub inspector Rama Krishna Reddy shot himself to death in a similar way in the same police quarters.
Although the Telangana police is trying to boost its image by taking new initiatives the suicides by its officers is likely to haunt it. Four officers, three of them serving in the Siddipet division, shot themselves in the last 10 months.
Ramakrishna Reddy shot himself in the wee hours of August 17 last year leaving a suicide note alleging harassment by senior officials. He accused a DSP and CI of harassing him. Though an inquiry was launched no serious action has been taken against the accused officials so far.
On March 3, SI Chitti Babu, who was serving at the Dubbaka police station shot his wife Saroja before shooting himself to death. His son later lodged a complaint alleging that his father committed suicide due to harassment by superiors. The investigation into this is still pending.
SI Sridhar, who was deployed to provide security to Prime Minister Modi, shot himself at Mailardev-pally last November.
