Hassan: The Visvesvarayya Jala Nigam (VJNL), which was hoping to do a  partial trial test of the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project by June this year, has had to put it off due to delay in the drawing of power lines over 27 kms to the sub-stations of two weirs(low dams) of the Kadumane stream.

With the Rs 132 crore work order for the power lines issued in March, the VJNL officials are now planning to conduct the trial test for the two weirs by the last week of November. A trial of pumping  water from all eight weirs under the Yettinahole project is expected to begin in April next year.

As much as 24 tmc feet of water will be drawn from the eight west flowing streams under the project for supply to the drought-prone districts of Kolar, Tumakuru, Ramnagara, Chikkaballapura and others in the eastern part of the state.

While the civil work on weirs 4 and 5 on the Kadumane stream has been competed along with two sub-stations of 66 kv capacity, the drawing of  power lines from Hebbanalli to Doddanagar and finally to the sub-stations at Kadumane has not yet begun, according to VJNL sources.

After scrutiny at various stages,  the tender process was  completed and the work order issued in March this year,  but the recent Assembly poll halted the drawing of pipelines in Sakleshpur. Now heavy rain in Sakleshpur is holding up the work, according to sources.
