Hyderabad: Mom jumps to death, 2-year-old survives

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old woman cluched her two-year-old daughter and jumped off the fourth floor of a building in Balajinagar, Kukatpally on Saturday night.
Police said the woman, Padmaja, 33, had married T. Rama Murthy 12 years ago. Natives of Jagtial district, they were in the event management business. The couple has two daughters and the family stays in a rented apartment on the fourth floor in a building in Balajinagar, Kukatpally.
At about 11.30 pm on Saturday, Murthy woke up but couldn’t find Padmaja and their younger daughter Akshaya. His search led him downstairs, where he found the two lying on the ground floor on the road.
Murthy then alerted his neighbours and rushed his wife and daughter to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared Padmaja as dead on arrival, while Akshaya, who sustained minor injuries, was admitted to a hospital in Kukatpally for better treatment.
Kukatpally sub-inspector Y. Ramesh said, “Rama Murthy and the elder daughter were asleep when Padmaja with the younger daughter jumped off the fourth floor.” He added that Padmaja’s father in his complaint stated Padmaja and Murthy had been facing financial issues which had caused Padmaja to feel depressed.
Based on a complaint filed by Padmaja’s father Lakshmi Narayana, Kukatpally police registered a case of suspicious death. Padmaja's body was handed over to her family after its postmortem examination at the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.
