Karnataka PCC promises succour to endosulfan victims
KPCC vice-president PV Mohan has decided to discuss the plight of these victims and urge State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao
Mangaluru: In response to the growing demand for improved assistance to endosulfan victims, KPCC vice-president PV Mohan has decided to discuss the plight of these victims and urge State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao to enhance the various support measures available to them.
Dinesh Gundu Rao is also the in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada.
Across the three coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, there are approximately 8,500 individuals affected by endosulfan. While the government has implemented some measures to help them, PV Mohan has emphasized the necessity for further improvements.
"Several aspects require immediate attention. The current monthly pension provided to the victims is inadequate, especially considering the rising costs of living. It must be increased. A sophisticated rehabilitation centre is one of the longstanding demands which should also be fulfilled," he told Deccan Chronicle.
"To devise effective programmes for their welfare, it is necessary that the government gain a proper understanding of the present conditions endured by the endosulfan victims. There should be an effort to assess and evaluate their present situation accurately. Also, an in-depth study on the impact of endosulfan on the affected individuals is needed," he said.
"Although the government has already sanctioned facilities, a systematic review and necessary upgrades are important. Unfortunately, the previous BJP government paid scant attention to the plight of endosulfan victims. I will raise these concerns with the Health Minister," Mohan added.
