23 Tamil Nadu police personnel to be awarded
This is the second time AK Viswanathan is receiving the President's medal for meritorious service.
Chennai: The Chennai City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan is among the three senior officers from the state selected for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to be presented on Independence Day.
Additional Commissioner (Headquarters), N. Seshasai and C. Raja, Additional Superintendent of Police, core cell, security branch CID Chennai are the other two officers to be presented with the President’s medal.
This is the second time AK Viswanathan is receiving the President’s medal for meritorious service. He had earlier received the award in 2006. Additional SP C Raja had worked in the core security cell of former CM J Jayalalithaa from 1992-1996 and had received the CM medal for meritorious services in 2002.
Twenty-three other police personnel in the State, including officers in the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) - Deepak M Damor, Anisa Husain, V Vanitha and G Karthikeyan have been selected for the President's medal for meritorious services. CK Alagunambi, Joint Deputy Director, Ministry of Home Affairs has also been selected for the President's medal for meritorious service.In the state, six police officers would be receiving the CM award for excellence in public service including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madurai city, A Myilvaganan who shot to fame during the Jallikattu protests. Ten others would be awarded with awards for excellence in Criminal investigation. The awardees will be presented an eight gram gold medal and a sum of '25, 000 by the chief minister.
