Flight services to resume from Pondicherry tomorrow
Discussions to acquire land have already started, said senior officials of the administration.
Puducherry: After a gap of almost two years, SpiceJet is all set to restart flight operations from the city again, hopefully for an uninterrupted sustainable operation this time as the earlier two attempts were unsuccessful.
On Wednesday SpiceJet will inaugurate a new direct flight service between Puducherry and Hyderabad, resuming flight operations from Puducherry under the Udan scheme, after being grounded for almost over three years.
Preparations are at the last stage to welcome the new initiative and Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues, legislators and senior officials will be present at the airport to see SpiceJet take off its inaugural flight to Hyderabad at around 10.30 a.m.
Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said that SpiceJet would fly to Hyderabad and Vijayawada initially and services to Bengaluru, Kochi and Tirupati are in the offing. Odisha Air had also come forward to operate flights from Puducherry to Salem and Bengaluru, he said. Extension of the airport runway would be the next challenge as land for expansion has to be acquired from Tamil Nadu. Discussions to acquire land have already started, said senior officials of the administration.
